MAHOOSIVE LEONBERGERS KENNELS

History Of Mahoosive Kennels

Introduction

We got our first Leo in January 2005 and were so smitten with her that we asked to be contacted when the breeder had a new brood. We were lucky to get the first bitch (Dusty) as some idiot had let down the breeder and she was the only one left from that litter (she was about 4 months old). At the time we had been looking for a Leo puppy for almost a year!

Well it was love at first sight as she drove back the 200 miles sitting between my wife's feet in the foot well of the car – she was a little bit too big to fit into the carrying cage we had taken with us (we had previously used this with Rottweiller and Doberman puppies of this age with no problems)!

We stopped at a motorway service centre on the way back and got Kentucky Fried Chicken and some chips for the dog (I know not the healthiest start) - well we ended up with the chips and the dog (who stubbornly refused the chips) demolished the chicken!

… And then it just carried on from there and when we got a call later that year that the breeder had another new brood, well that was the entrance for Tilly in October 2005!

You could not believe how different the two dogs are - Dusty is calm, laid back without a care in the world and then there's Tilly!!!

The next addition was Bilbo Baggins. Well he chose us as when we visited the first time he chewed my shoelaces and all the others went back to bed. When we went to pick the dog he seemed to remember me as well - so no choice really.

The trip home was fun. Bilbo was put in the crate all nice and quiet. The wheel must have taken half a turn and he started to bark, cry and howl. I tried the radio, talking, shouting, whistling, window up, window down - nothing worked until we hit the motorway - silence!

OK now I know why he went quiet - the stench from the back seat was not what you could call pleasant. Ah-ha, there's a sign - M Way services 22 miles! Toe down, try not to breathe - look behind and what he hasn't rolled in he's eaten.

Pulled in the service station - the howling had started again now. Went to clean out the cage - nothing I could do . . . so back in the car, windows wide open and music on full blast and homeward bound.

Arrive home, stench had died down and he was relatively quiet. My wife came to the car to greet him, opened the door, leaned in and then jumped straight back - perhaps I'd just got used to things.

Still can't all be bad news can it - we're busily setting up some kennels and looking for a suitable stud for Dusty to hopefully start breeding November/December this year.
